Version
6.1 Release Features Native Code Enhancements for
PA-RISC
Acucorp’s recent release of extend
Version 6.1 provides COBOL developers with the ability
to create native instructions for 32- and 64-bit PA-RISC
machines running under HP-UX—substantially improving
performance for CPU-intensive processes. Initial benchmarking
tests performed with NCR Corporation's Csample program
indicate that tasks were completed more than twice
as fast on the 32- and 64-bit HP-UX 11i machine using
native code, thus reducing the processing time by
more than 50 percent. For more information about Version
6.1, or our enhanced support for COBOL interoperability
with XML and thin client architecture, please visit
our Web
site.
In addition to unparalleled platform portability
and performance, Acucorp’s extend6
family of solutions provide technologies for: wrapping
legacy assets and deploying them in a Service-Oriented
Architecture or as Web services; language interoperability
with .NET, J2EE, Visual Basic and C#; COBOL-based
Web or mobile connectivity; improved transaction response
times; access to relational database management systems
(RDBMSs) or other data source; and graphical user
interface (GUI) design. For a complete list of our
legacy modernization and extension solutions, please

L’Oréal
Mexico Completes HP e3000 Migration Using Acucorp
Technologies
“Acucorp’s innovative technologies and
responsive customer service have changed our business
forever,” explains Jesús Solórzano,
IT manager for L’Oréal Mexico, a subsidiary
of the French cosmetics giant L’Oréal.
“We’re not only saving money; we’re
also able to keep our application and open it up to
a whole new set of technologies.”
Faced with eventual end-of-support for their HP e3000
server, L’Oréal Mexico chose to migrate
its manufacturing application to an HP ProLiant DL740
running Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Microsoft
SQL Server 2000, and convert from HP COBOL II to Acucorp’s
ACUCOBOL-GT. The COBOL-to-COBOL conversion provided
a rapid solution that preserved their 16-year investment
in the existing code, saving them the time and expense
involved in rewriting a 400-program application. It
also allowed them to keep their existing character-based
interface, while preserving the possibility of adding
a COBOL graphical interface in the future. And, by
migrating their system to another HP platform, L’Oréal
Mexico was able to reduce its annual hardware support
costs by 95 percent.
