Since 1988, Acucorp has offered an open systems COBOL, ACUCOBOL-GT^®, that lets you write a program once, and run it on virtually any operating system platform without recompiling.

We achieve this unprecedented platform independence through an efficient pseudocode system. Rather than producing native code for a single platform, our compiler produces a small, independent object that can be placed on any open-systems machine. At runtime, the object is executed by a native runtime executable. This runtime is in essence a COBOL Virtual Machine™ that can run any ACUCOBOL-GT object regardless of the platform for which it was intended.

With a machine-independent object, you are freed from having to maintain and compile different applications for different platforms. Instead, you maintain a single set of source code, create one object, and license runtime executables for your various end-user environments. Once a runtime has been provided for a platform, any ACUCOBOL-GT program can run on that platform without having to be rewritten or recompiled. No linking is required, so you are spared a lengthy step of the compile/debug cycle. Identified issues are consistent across platforms, so you are spared support effort.

With Acucorp’s pseudocode approach, you reduce your development and support costs in many ways. In addition, because environment-specific issues are handled by the runtime, you are free to focus on development activities that add value to your business.
