Acucorp to Host 12th Annual Developers' Conference
San Diego, CA - September 6, 2001 - Acucorp, Inc., an international provider of application extension solutions that solve mission critical business issues, is proud to announce its 12th Annual Developers' Conference: Keys to Success. The conference, designed for organizations interested in extending the life of their inherited COBOL applications, is scheduled for September 24 and 25, 2001 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Hotel in La Jolla, California.
Jim Sinur, Vice President and Research Area Director of Information and Knowledge Management Research at Gartner, Inc., will deliver the event's keynote address, focusing on the legacy application industry and its shift to modernize and enhance existing COBOL programs, rather than re-write them in a newer language or replace the application with vendor-supplied software. Other industry leaders, including Roy Greenwood, an IBM representative and Linux expert, will also be on hand. In his presentation, Roy will discuss IBM's commitment to running the Linux operating system on its mainframe servers - such as the eServer z900 and S/390®.
In addition to sessions from key technology experts, the 12th Annual Developers' Conference will feature Acucorp customers and the company's acclaimed developers and technical personnel - all of whom will be discussing the latest software innovations that are part of the soon-to-be-released Version 5.2 of extend5. Acucorp's extend5 includes e-business, data access, user interface, productivity enhancement and distributed computing development solutions.
With Version 5.2, programmers can display their server-based application on a Windows client using the much-anticipated ACUCOBOL-GT Thin Client. The thin client technology also provides users with the security and stability of having the code and runtime centralized on one machine. And, with Acucorp's Character-to-GUI wizard, programmers can quickly and easily develop a graphical user interface for their character-based application.
"Many in the industry thought that COBOL would become obsolete after Y2K," says Acucorp President and CEO, Dr. Pamela Coker. "But, with nearly 70 percent of all worldwide business applications written in COBOL and the language supporting such industry hardware manufacturers as IBM, that's simply not the case."
