ISV Selects Acucorp's extend™5 Technologies for HP e3000 Migration Project
San Diego, CA - September 9, 2002 - Demand Wave Solutions, Inc., an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) that distributes order fulfillment services and software, recently selected Acucorp, Inc. as the COBOL vendor of choice in a comprehensive migration project that involves moving their BOSSgold order management system from the HP e3000 to the HP 9000. The project makes Acucorp among the first COBOL technology providers both tested and selected for an HP e3000 migration since last November, when Hewlett-Packard announced its decision to discontinue the popular server line in 2006. By using Acucorp's extend5 solutions to move to the new platform, Demand Wave will be able expand the HP e3000 version of BOSSgold to the UNIX and Windows-NT environments-while, at the same time, dramatically reducing the cost, risk and time involved in re-writing, re-engineering or replacing their core technology.
"Over the years, Acucorp has invested significant resources in our HP platform offerings, supporting the migration, maintenance and modernization of legacy applications in these environments," explains Joe Seiley, Acucorp's Director of Business Development. "Since learning of HP's end-of-support and end-of-sales decision for the HP e3000, we have focused our efforts on providing ISVs, enterprise and government users, as well as partners, with a comprehensive pre- and post-migration COBOL strategy. This strategy includes moving the applications from the HP e3000 and leveraging them on any of the many platforms we support including HP-UX (Itanium and PA-RISC), Linux (Itanium and x86) and Windows (Itanium and x86)."
Designed primarily for mid-sized to Fortune 100 manufacturers and distributors, Demand Wave's BOSSgold system offers customers cost savings and an improved ability to meet order demands by performing functions such as scheduling assembly operations using real-time order data and pulling components from supplier hubs. BOSSgold also includes adaptable customer service, e-commerce, order entry, inventory, purchasing, receiving, accounts payable and accounts receivable features. The HP e3000 version of the application was migrated to the HP 9000 using Acucorp's robust extend5 with ACUCOBOL-GT development system and AcuBench integrated development environment. ScreenJet Ltd.'s Migration Toolkit was also incorporated into the migration strategy, permitting the transition of the application's VPlus screens directly to AcuBench and then transforming the program into a modern graphical user interface (GUI) system-without having to replace the existing business processes or logic, or having to rebuild the new screens manually. In addition to the migration, Demand Wave chose to enhance the HP e3000 version of BOSSgold by employing Acucorp's AcuLaunch Thin Client architecture and Acu4GL for Oracle relational database technology.
"We knew we wanted to expand into other markets and, in order to do that, we needed to migrate this version of BOSSgold from the HP e3000," says Martin Vaughn, Chief Operating Officer at Demand Wave. "Acucorp and ScreenJet provided us with all the tools necessary to complete the migration successfully and, ultimately, increase our customer base and revenue streams."
Now available for wide release, Version 5.2.2 of Acucorp's extend5
software solutions offers support for HP COBOL language extensions and Intrinsics,
thereby providing direct access to Image and many other third party offerings.
The software also includes such features as: COBOL-based GUI development, Thin
Client technology and distributed computing capabilities, Internet deployment
options, a powerful debugger and Windows IDE and additional support for Acucorp
products under both MPE and POSIX.
