Acucorp Announces Plans to Support Linux® on IBM eServer™ POWER5® Architecture
Company extends commitment to support Linux on POWER to latest IBM release
San Diego, CA – August 4, 2004 – Acucorp, Inc., an international provider of legacy application extension solutions, today announces its plans to support Linux on the new IBM® eServer POWER5 architecture. This announcement is the latest example of Acucorp’s longstanding commitment to provide COBOL solutions for Linux on POWER, as well as on the entire IBM eServer line.
IBM has worked closely with Acucorp to provide free, on-demand access to pre-release POWER5 hardware through its Virtual Loaner Program. This has allowed Acucorp to start porting and testing its ACUCOBOL-GT® development system on the new POWER5 platform prior to official announcement. Porting is initially being conducted on SuSE Linux 9.0, with plans already being implemented to support other enterprise-ready distributions of Linux on the POWER5 architecture, including Red Hat® Enterprise Linux, Turbolinux® Enterprise, and many others, in addition to IBM’s traditional UNIX® offering on AIX5L®.
"By supporting Linux on the new IBM POWER5 architecture, we can continue to deliver the industry-leading solutions for COBOL migration and modernization that ISVs and end-users have come to expect from Acucorp," said Cameron Jenkins, Acucorp Vice President of Strategic Partnerships. "Acucorp’s support of Linux on the POWER5 architecture allows IBM customers to migrate their mission-critical legacy COBOL applications that much more quickly so that they can achieve the performance and cost-of-ownership benefits inherent to running Linux on POWER5."
Acucorp, an Advanced Business Partner within IBM’s PartnerWorld for Developers program and a Leaders for Linux Business Partner, works with IBM at the development, sales, marketing, and support levels to ensure that Acucorp products are optimized to provide maximum ROI and business value on IBM 32- and 64-bit platforms. Acucorp is the only enterprise Linux COBOL solution available across the entire IBM eServer line, including the xSeries®, pSeries®, iSeries® and zSeries® servers running Linux, Windows and AIX5L operating systems.
In addition to being the only COBOL vendor to support applications running on the entire IBM eServer™ line, Acucorp also supports integration with other market-leading IBM technologies including WebSphere®, WebSphere MQ, Rational® ClearCase®, as well as providing flexible connectivity to DB2® and Informix® data from COBOL.
