Acucorp and Tecnológico de Monterrey Signed an Agreement for the use of Acucorp’s extend® Software Development Tools in the e-Business Laboratory

San Diego, CA - December 20, 2006 - Acucorp, Inc., an international provider of COBOL modernization solutions, and the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, Mexico), have signed an agreement for the use of Acucorp’s extend® software development tools in the e-Business Laboratory at Monterrey Campus. Beginning January, 2007, students majoring in Information Technology Management and Business Administration will have free access to Acucorp’s extend through the school’s e-Business Laboratory—enabling them to learn more about COBOL, a robust computer language written in 1960 and still widely used today.

“This opportunity will better prepare our students to meet the demands of the industry,” explains Dr. David Garza, Director of the Department of Information Systems at Tecnológico de Monterrey. “There are more than 200 billion lines of COBOL code in use now, making it an important computer language for our students to master. The alliance between Tecnológico de Monterrey and Acucorp also furthers our initiative, and that of the state of Nuevo Leon, to develop a regional information-based economy and to convert Monterrey into the first ‘technopolis’ in Latin America.”

Using Acucorp’s extend, software developers can modernize their business-critical legacy systems, providing application interoperability with Java, .NET and XML. They can also deploy their COBOL applications on the Internet, transform character-based screens to graphical user interfaces (GUIs), connect to relational database management systems (RDBMSs) like Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, split application processing between client/server machines using Thin Client architecture, and easily move their systems from aging hardware platforms to more than 600 open-systems environments via Acucorp’s COBOL Virtual Machine™.

R. Garza M.S.E., Professor of the Department of Information Systems at Tecnológico de Monterrey, will head the university project, which will include the installation of Acucorp products in approximately 55 client machines with Windows XP and a Windows 2000 server. In addition to providing students with free access to its extend software, Acucorp will offer them free Web-based support services and training.

“COBOL applications represent a large technology investment and are an important asset to businesses worldwide,” says Lori Galvan, Acucorp Vice President of Market Development. “These systems have been developed and customized over decades to accommodate the commercial processes that give each company a unique competitive advantage. Our agreement with Tecnológico de Monterrey and other universities will ensure that students continue to have access to the technologies they’ll need to maintain and modernize COBOL applications, providing their future employers with substantial savings of time and money.” ”
