Version
6.2 of extend Now Available
Acucorp is proud to announce the latest release in
its extend6
Interoperability Series. Version 6.2, featuring more
than 125 enhancements to the extend
product suite, includes:
- Improved HP COBOL II Compatibility
Acucorp’s ACUCOBOL-GT—a
robust COBOL development system with a compiler,
runtime (known as The COBOL Virtual Machine), Vision
indexed file system, support utilities and a source
level, interactive debugger—now provides support
for $SET on the command line, thereby simplifying
HP COBOL II to ACUCOBOL-GT conversions. In addition,
Acucorp continues to offer the leading open systems
COBOL solution to ease migration from the HP e3000.
- Support for Microsoft .NET
Extensions that allow programs written in ACUCOBOL-GT
to interoperate with Microsoft .NET technologies
have been added to Version 6.2. ACUCOBOL-GT applications
can now provide key functions or services to a .NET
program or assembly. They can also consume or invoke
.NET assemblies and interact with .NET Web services.
This allows legacy systems to easily interoperate
with applications in the .NET environment and helps
revitalize them by providing and consuming services.
- ACUCOBOL-GT Web Thin Client
Also new with Version 6.2 is the ACUCOBOL-GT Web
Thin Client—a special version of Acucorp’s
existing thin client technology—which enables
developers to provide Web access to their applications
using a thin client configuration. Delivered as
an ActiveX control, Acucorp’s Web thin client
makes it possible for the deployment of existing
thin client applications on the Internet without
the requirement to rewrite or even recompile them.
Visit our Web
site for a demonstration.
- New Graphical Controls
Version 6.2 introduces many new graphical controls
to allow COBOL developers to design richer GUI applications.
Included are: a new standard control for entering
dates, improved grid control styles and properties
for scrolling and cell content protection, and new
tab control styles that allow tabs to be displayed
at the left, right or bottom of the control—making
it more convenient for users to enter a date or
time value and for developers to have greater control
over the appearance of tabs and grids.

site.

Columbia
Steel Migrates Core HP e3000 Business Applications
to HP-UX
Columbia Steel, a U.S. manufacturer of industrial
impact and wear-resistant replacement parts, was faced
with a difficult decision: maintain its business applications
on their HP e3000 or migrate them to another server.
Using Acucorp’s extend,
along with Ordina Denkart’s MPUX and Marxmeier
Software’s Eloquence, Columbia Steel was able
to maintain its vital COBOL business logic without
having to rewrite or re-engineer its 120 program modules.
Instead, the company simply moved its HP COBOL II
applications to Acucorp’s ACUCOBOL-GT running
on HP-UX.
See Acucorp’s ad in the November issue of HP
World, or download the pdf
for details.

Acucorp
Reinforces Commitment to OpenVMS
For more than 15 years, Acucorp has developed innovative
COBOL solutions portable to over 600 platforms and
operating systems (OS), including OpenVMS Alpha and
Itanium2. By default, the ACUCOBOL-GT
development system supports many HP COBOL extensions
for OpenVMS. This support makes it less costly and
risky to modernize COBOL applications and maintain
them on trusted OpenVMS servers. The Acucorp development
system also takes advantage of Record Management Services
(RMS), and offers easy access to Digital Command Language
(DCL) and many other facilities available with OpenVMS.
As part of its renewed OpenVMS support, Acucorp has:
- Featured the OS in the Next Issue of its
Newsletter
The upcoming issue of Acucorp
News, Acucorp’s printed newsletter
due out in early December, includes an in-depth
article on OpenVMS titled: OpenVMS: The History
of an Operating System. In addition to providing
a historical look at the nearly 30-year-old OS,
the article documents both HP’s and Acucorp’s
future plans for support. If you are not currently
a subscriber to Acucorp News, please complete our
online subscription
form. Or, contact Acucorp
Marketing for a copy of the issue.
- Participated in the Winter 2005 HP OpenVMS
Business Solutions CD
The CD, endorsed by HP and featuring products and
services that run on HP OpenVMS-based Integrity
servers and AlphaServer systems, includes a one-page
Acucorp position paper, press release and other
documents outlining Acucorp’s offering for
the popular operating system.
- Announced Plans to Attend the December
OpenVMS Ambassadors Partner Roundhouse
Acucorp will, once again, participate in the OpenVMS
Ambassadors Partner Roundhouse beginning December
6. As an attendee of the Roundhouse meetings, Acucorp
will introduce the company and its products as well
as develop contacts with the HP team of OpenVMS
Ambassadors.
