Release Overview
Version 6.0

Support for XML

Starting with Version 6.0, applications written in ACUCOBOL-GT can be made to read, process, and output data in eXtensible Markup Language (XML) format.

To enable your COBOL program to work with XML, ACUCOBOL-GT Version 6.0 includes two new components:

  1. A developer utility called xml2fd that creates File Descriptors (FDs) and SELECT statements from existing XML files. You can modify the FDs and SELECTS as required for your purposes, and include the results in your ACUCOBOL-GT program to prepare it for use with XML data.
  2. A runtime-resident file system interface that reads XML data and transparently converts it to sequential files for COBOL processing. It also converts COBOL output data into XML format as required. This interface is known as AcuXML.

Please note that AcuXML is not available on the HP e3000 platform.

For information on working with XML data, please refer to section 6.11 of the ACUCOBOL-GT User's Guide.
