Acu4GL® for Oracle 9i 64Bit

January 2003

Please keep this information handy.

If you order Acu4GL® Version 5.2.1 for use with Oracle, please alert your Acucorp Sales Professional if the Oracle database is Oracle 9i 64-bit.

If so, this bulletin is pertinent to you.

Version 5.2.1 is the only Acu4GL version that has been tested with Oracle 9i 64Bit.

Windows Clients work well: For Version 5.2.1, our Windows version of Acu4GL for Oracle works fine with Oracle 9i 64Bit databases. No special steps are required.

32Bit UNIX Clients work well: For Acu4GL Version 5.2.1 on UNIX, 32Bit clients can talk to 64Bit Oracle 9i databases. This is true whether the client is on the same machine or on a different machine. Your site enjoys the benefits of the 64Bit database even though the client is 32Bit. Here is how that is set up:

  • The 64Bit Oracle database is delivered with both 32Bit client libraries and 64Bit client libraries. You will use 32Bit.
  • You need a 32Bit version of Acu4GL for Oracle from Acucorp.
  • You should link the client in this way: link the 32Bit ACUCOBOL®-GT runtime with 32Bit Acu4GL for Oracle and with the 32Bit Oracle client libraries.
  • This client will work with a 64Bit Oracle 9i database.

64Bit UNIX Clients are not supported: For Version 5.2.1, a UNIX 64Bit client (runtime linked with 64Bit Acu4GL for Oracle and with 64Bit Oracle client libraries) is not supported. This is due to a change in the Oracle API. Do not use 64Bit Acu4GL for Oracle for accessing Oracle 9i. (Works fine with Oracle 8i, however.)

If your site encounters any difficulties during the linking step, Technical Support can assist you with linking 32Bit clients for use with Oracle 9i 64Bit databases. Remember that this requires Version 5.2.1 products from Acucorp. Thank you.
