Daylight Savings and Your ACUCOBOL-GT® Applications

March 2007

The U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005 has changed the rules for Daylight Saving Time (DST) and these changes will go into effect in the U.S., Canada, and Bermuda earlier than usual this year. DST will now start on Sunday, March 11 and will last through Sunday, November 4. As an Acucorp customer, you may be wondering if these new rules will affect your ACUCOBOL-GT applications. The answer is “no.” In fact, using the ACCEPT command, your ACUCOBOL-GT application receives select data (such as time) from the operating environment. So Acucorp’s software solutions do not do any time calculations. However, to ensure a smooth transition to DST this year, you should contact your operating system vendor and confirm they have updated their system with the new rules.
